"NEW RANGER SCHOOL"
PTO MEETING MINUTES
JANUARY 8, 2008

ATTENDANCE

BOOK FAIR
The book fair was a huge success. Our library received vouchers to purchase $3,203.30 worth of books and supplies. And our teachers received lots of books for their classrooms too. A big thank-you to Kim Carlisle and Joanne Reuther for all their hard work organizing this event and to the many parents who helped run it.

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA
This event was well attended and resulted in a profit of approximately $13.00 for the PTO. Many thanks to Kim & Ken Carlisle and to Jen Costa for the great job they did planning this event. And thanks also to the local businesses who donated to this event and to all those who helped run it.

NEW FUNDRAISING IDEA
Ladies night out on Thursday, January 17th at McGovern’s Restaurant from 6-9 pm, WCSWANS, a women’s social club and networking group, is inviting all Ranger moms, teachers, staff, relatives and friends to attend an evening of fun and socializing which would include dinner and the appearance of a guest speaker. Topic: CREATE THE LIFE YOU WANT. The cost to attend is $25.00. The Ranger PTO will receive $10.00 from the reg. fee for each Ranger mom, teacher and/or staff member who attends and their accompanying friends and/or relatives.

PARENT WORKSHOPS
CPR class has been scheduled for Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Lynn Wilson, a Ranger parent and registered cardiac rehab nurse will teach. A sign-up will be sent home. Space is limited. A second class will be scheduled if good response. This class is intended to teach CPR for informational purposes only. No certifications will be given.
A survey regarding possible topics for a workshop in the spring was passed around. Jodi VanSprang will work with Rebecca Elwell of the Tiverton Prevention Coalition to coordinate this.

FEBRUARY FAMILY FUN NIGHT
A Valentine themed fun night is being planned for Friday, February 1st from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Amy Brigham and Leigh Lattuca will organize this event.

100TH DAY OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIES and PENNIES FOR PATIENTS FUNDRAISER
The PTO is planning a PJ’S FOR PENNIES DAY to kick off our annual “Pennies for Patients” fundraiser. Ranger students will be allowed to wear their PJ’s to school if they bring in 100 pennies or $1.00 which will be donated to the Leukemia Society. This event will take place on the 100th day of school the first week of February. Donations will be collected for the entire week. Liz Wall will be the coordinator of this fundraising event.

RANGER PROVIDENCE BRUINS NIGHT
Scheduled for Friday, February 8th. Kim Johanning - coordinator. This is not a fundraiser.

AFTER SCHOOL ARTS PROGRAM
We are still in need of someone to arrange and oversee the parent volunteers for each class. If you are able to take on this task, please contact Sherri Feld at jandsfeld@cox.net or at 624-3828.

ARTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Acting classes will continue as part of the after school program and the children who participate will be performing in a small play at the end of the last session. Gloria Crist is teaching. Linda Larsen will assist with coordinating the presentation of the play.

INK CARTRIGES AND USED CELL PHONES PASSIVE FUNDRAISER
Joanne Reuther will take on the responsibility of sorting and shipping these items.

TEACHER WISH LISTS / SPECIAL REQUESTS
Ms. Griffith - $13.80 (Velcro for special needs schedules) - APPROVED
Ms. Kluth - $20.00 (misc. supplies for special ed students) - APPROVED

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART FUNDRAISER
Tentatively being planned by Mr. Deldeo for sometime in March.

MARCH FAMILY FUN NIGHT
Jen Gallant will look into holding a Ranger Family Fun night at Driscoll Skating Rink.

FOURTH GRADE FAREWELL
The PTO would like to encourage parents to start compiling photos of their children which have been taken during the course of their years at both Ranger Schools. The PTO intends to put the photos onto a DVD, a copy of which, all the 4th grade students will receive. In March, a committee to plan the end of year festivities for the 4th graders will be formed.

NEXT MEETING DATE
Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 6:30 pm. Babysitters will be present that evening.
